Camping Hiking Hunting
Fishing and Astronomy Guide

Jenny Jump State Forest is located in
Warren County along the rolling terrain
of the Jenny Jump Mountain Range.
Twelve miles southeast of the Delaware
Water Gap, it is found nestled between
the two rural historic towns of Hope and
Great Meadows, and north of the
Pequest River at Buttzville.

|
|
Panoramic vistas of the Highlands, the Kittatinny Mountains and Valley to the
west and scenic views of the Great Meadows in the east, dramatically greet
the visitor who climbs the narrow path leading to the top of Jenny Jump Mountain.
Rocky outcroppings and huge boulders line the trails, evidence of the
great glaciers that once covered the landscape and cut out the valleys
and other geologic formations that now make up Jenny Jump State Forest.

Camp Sites
|
Campsites are available for small and large groups in a densely wooded area.
There are 22 tent and trailer sites provided with fire rings and tables. Two
group campsites that accommodate 25 and 40 people are also available. Campers may
purchase firewood at the park office concession. Campsites are open from April 1
through October 31.

Camp Shelters
|
|
Eight fully enclosed camp shelters near the top of Jenny Jump Mountain are
available for rent year around. The shelters have furnished
living rooms with wood burning stoves and a room with double- deck bunks. Each
shelter accommodates four to six people. An outdoor grill for cooking and a picnic
table are also provided. Reservations are recommended.

Hiking Trails
|
Five miles of hiking trails through mountain terrain and a mature hardwood forest
bordered by rows of white pine offer the hiker spectacular views. One of the
finest is from the summit trail, where hikers may rest on huge boulders.
From this vantage point at
an elevation of 1090 feet, the Pequest Valley with its rich bottom land,
left by glaciers 40,000 years ago, may be viewed. This area is also a bird lovers
heaven. A wide variety of raptors and other birds are often seen
sailing on the up-drafts along the ridges.
Native deer, wild turkey and many other types of fauna and flora are
also commonly observed by the hiker at Jenny Jump.

Astronomy
|
Jenny Jump is the home of the
United Astronomy Clubs of New Jersey's
Observatory and Education Center. The UACNJ
is a consortium of astronomy clubs in the New Jersey area
who use the facility as their 'dark sky' observing site.
Each Saturday evening from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. (April through October)
the astronomers present free lecture programs
on various topics in astronomy
followed by viewing the evening sky through their telescopes
(weather permitting). You can find more about the
astronomy lecture programs, or the

Carry-In/Carry-Out Program
|
The State Park Service has instituted a Carry-In/Carry-Out Program
for managing trash. Visitors are encouraged to assist with the care and
maintenance of these facilities by placing all trash in the bags provided
and taking it home for proper disposal. This stewardship effort eliminates
odors, unsightly containers, and bees and wildlife attracted to the containers.
When camping, trash and recyclables should be placed in the appropriate receptacles.
Help us conserve. The staff time spent collecting trash and the disposal costs
can be used for other forest maintenance. Thank you for your help and
please remember to recycle.
