Camping Hiking Hunting
and Fishing Guide

Worthington  State  Forest  is located  along the
Kittatinny  Mountain  adjacent  to  the  Delaware
River  and is  just north  of the scenic  Delaware
Water Gap  in  Warren County.  Except for some
fields along the Delaware River,  Worthington is
covered in lush woodland, and is an ideal place
for forest recreational activities. There is boating and fishing on the river, hiking and camping in the forest, undisturbed natural areas and other scenic attractions for the nature enthusiast or interested visitor.

Camp Sites
Campsites for family and group camping are provided along two miles of the river frontage. The sites have space for tents, tent trailers, or small travel trailers, and are equipped with table and fireplace. Showers and modern toilet facilities and drinking water are available, however, there are no water, electric or sewer connections for trailers. Campers must furnish their own firewood or charcoal. Campsites are open from April 1 through December 31.

Hiking Trails
The Appalachian Trail crosses the Delaware River from Pennsylvania just above the Delaware Water Gap, ascends through the mountain ridge and Worthington State Forest to its upper boundary. From this point the trail continues to Stokes State Forest and High Point State Park. The trail is restricted to hiking only for its entire length from Maine to Georgia.

Worthington State Forest contains six and a half miles of the Appalachian Trail in its twenty miles of park trails that are available to the casual and serious hiker alike. Included also is the 1.5 mile trail that encircles the Sunfish Pond Natural Area which provides many scenic overlooks.

Hunting and Fishing
In addition to the natural brook trout fishery, Dunnfield Creek has an excellent native trout population. The Delaware River is noted for the spring shad run as well as for the summer bass fishing. Fishing the Delaware may be accomplished from the shore, by wading or from a boat. A ramp for launching small boats is centrally located within the camping area.

Hunting is permitted in the forest except in posted special use areas. Please check with the forest office for the exact areas and regulations. Hunting and Fishing activities are subject to New Jersey Fish, Game and Wildlife laws.

People with Disabilities Access
The recreation facilities at Worthington are partially accessible for people with disabilities. Please contact the forest office for further information regarding specific disability access needs. Test telephone users should call the New Jersey Relay Service at (800) 852-7899.

Carry-In/Carry-Out Program
The State Park Service has instituted a Carry-In/Carry-Out Program for managing trash. Visitors are encouraged to assist with the care and maintenance of these facilities by placing all trash in the bags provided and taking it home for proper disposal. This stewardship effort eliminates odors, unsightly containers, and bees and wildlife attracted to the containers. When camping, trash and recyclables should be placed in the appropriate receptacles. Help us conserve. The staff time spent collecting trash and the disposal costs can be used for other forest maintenance. Thank you for your help and please remember to recycle.

Directions to Worthington State Forest
